Made Ya Look Friday!

3 09 2010

TGIF! Hopefully today is a pay-day for you!

Earlier this week I mentioned that I bought my first pair of TOMS shoes. I am totally in love with them and keep trying to find excuses to wear them haha. But, TOMS also makes today’s feature for Made Ya Look Friday.

What do you think of these sparkly TOMS? Are they a LOOK or a Make Ya Look? I’m honestly torn on what I think, so I’m anxious to know how you guys feel about them. They retail for $54. The result will be posted tomorrow morning. Happy voting!

Work It Out!

30 11 2009

Lately, I have had a lot of questions both here and in person about all of these new “toning” shoes. Mostly, people just want to know if they work. Although Reebok  has the market cornered with their sexy and irresistable ad campaign, there are several other brands who have been making toning shoes for a while now, and are worth looking into.

One of the most important things to remember is that these shoes are for ENHANCEMENT, they do not replace workouts! Your body, muscles and most importantly, your heart, need regular cardio exercise, and these shoes will not fill that void. However, they will enhance and work your muscles in a new and effective way, leaving you more tone than before.

The technology of all the shoes is basically the same. All toning shoes have an “instable” mid section, to make you work harder to stay balanced. This simulates walking on sand and therefore forces your muscles to work harder, leaving them more toned. The front of the shoes have a mid-density stability enhancer and this is what helps you maintain your pace while on the go. The back of the shoe has a very high density and is the reason that these shoes do not destroy your joints. The back of the shoe is where all the shock absorbtion happens, and makes you want to wear them again.

Below are some pictures of the different brands and shoes to check out. After scouring the internet, MBT has the best reputation for toning shoes, but a much higher price tag. Skechers also makes a toning shoe, but beware, it is not the most attractive. Finally, there is another brand called FitFlops and they make a wide variety of styles and also have a good reputation. See the pix below.

Instead of don’ts here are some DO’s for these shoes. DO try them out while running your daily errands and walking the dog around town–it certainly can’t hurt. DO use these shoes only to supplement your daily workout regime and understand that they are not a replacement for going to the gym. DO find a pair that are comfortable enough and that you like! If you hate the way they look, you’ll never put them on. For the money and the possible uncertainty of these shoes, you want to buy something you love.

Good luck and please let me know how these work if you try them out! 🙂

Rise to the Top!

23 11 2009

In today’s economy it is becoming more important to maintain a professional and polished style, in and out of the office. One of the best ways to enhance your professional wardrobe is with the right pair of shoes.

Finding the best pair of shoes for work can be tricky, especially because there are so many different dress codes out there. One of the most important things to remember is to dress with class and comfort. This is vital to finding the right pair of career shoes.  One of the best options is something that isn’t too flashy or tall. Keep it simple and chic. One of the perfect career shoes is a simple black patent pump, pictured below. You can find these anywhere and buy them no matter what your budget. They look great with dress pants, skirts, suits and dresses alike. Also, these shoes are a staple to any wardrobe and are worth the investment if you spend a lot on them.

Another important thing to keep in mind when choosing your career shoe is your daily activity. If you sit behind a desk all day and only walk to Starbucks and to lunch, you can probably push it a little bit and wear a taller heel. However, if you are like KMG who wrote in about her unpredictable job tasks, something flatter might be a better alternative. There are plenty of flat options for working girls with tons of style infused. Flats come in so many varieties, that it’s hard not to fall in love with a great pair. For the winter, it’s a good idea to wear some boots while outside, and switch to your flats once your toes warm up inside the office. If you can’t do this, then a flat stylish boot, like the few seen below would be ideal.

Finally, when going for an interview, be wise in choosing your shoes. You DON’T want to pick a shoe that you can’t walk around comfortably in. Sometimes interviews are rigged with stairs, narrow hallways and slippery floors. It will not be in your best interest to topple over because your heel is too high. Also, DON’T wear the same shoes you go bar-hopping in to work regularly. Usually, shoes that you wear out to party get beat up fast, and although it’s hard to tell in a dimly lit, vodka hazed atmosphere, you don’t want your boss to think you are a party animal that can’t keep up with herself. Be sure to wear clean, polished and chic shoes. Further, DON’T wear sky-high heels every single day. Platform heels are acceptable once in a while, but when you’re wearing pants especially, there is no reason you can’t tone it down a bit. Save your heels for great skirts and dresses instead.

One final, important DON’T–Don’t be afraid of color! Shoes should always be your best accessory 🙂

Here are some pics of perfect career shoes. Enjoy!

Put Some SHINE In Your Step!

16 11 2009

Walk into any store these days and you will find a slew of sparkle; but, when it comes to your shoes, there is only one sparkle that will fit–SEQUINS!

Sequins are one of the hottest trends in shoes right now, and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. Sequins are actually a highly versatile shoe trend that even the tamest shoe-lovers can try. Sequin shoes come in all sorts from sneakers, to flats, boots and of course, pumps. Even better–there is a price point for everyone!

One of the keys to wearing sequins well is to remember that little phrase “less is more”. Trust me, I know it’s hard when you are true lover of glitz, but you will be doing the world a favor. These precious shoes stand tall on their own and should only be used to enhance your outfit. Think of them as your best accessory. A favorite style is with any type of jeans. Skinny jeans with sequined pumps is a killer look! Also, for the more daring–don’t be afraid to wear your sequins to work. Gone are the days where you need the sparkle to light up the night, if done tastefully with less as more, sequins can make you look like a million bucks and Ms CEO.

Be careful though, there are some don’ts. Most importantly, sequined shoes are almost like art, and you would hate to ruin the picture with a hundred other pictures hung on the same wall. DON’T wear sequined shoes with your sparkly Ed-Hardy shirts and embellished jeans, you will ruin the look and style of the shoes and just look a little silly. DON’T wear a sequined shoe that is beat up. If there are lots of sequines missing and strings hanging off your shoe–you need to invest in some replacements. Finally, DON’T think that these shoes instantly make you MJ or Liberache and save your sweet dance moves for your pre-gamming rituals. 😉

Here are some of my favorite sequin shoes right now:
